Sir Geoff Hurst Swindled On Overseas Investment

Sir Geoff Hurst may be most famous for scoring a hat trick during the 1966 World Cup, but it is not this story which is currently filling the media…

Alongside 5 other property investors, Sir Geoff is currently involved in a Court case where it is believed he was conned out of hundreds of thousands of pounds for several off-plan property investments in Marbella Spain during 2003/2004.

Advised by ‘trusted friend’ Mark Cordner to invest in multiple plots of land in Spain; it was later discovered that none of these said property developments could be built because the construction licences which had been issued for these builds were done so illegally by the city’s Mayor.

In addition, it was also revealed that their financial advisor Mark Cordner was also pocketing more than 80,000 Euros for every sale he commissioned - all of which he knew could never go into completion because the land was worthless for building on…

Although Mr Cordner denies having any involvement with Michael Hone - the face behind this fraudulent activity - David Barkley, Darren Innocent, Paul Kenyon, Martin Roberts and Terrance Hopley have all joined Sir Geoff in this accusation against the pair who cost them more than £2 million.

Unfortunately more than 6 years on, this land has now changed hands to new property owners who will not acknowledge the contract brought by Sir Geoff and the others, meaning any hopes for recovering their £2 million rely solely on the success of this case.

How does this affect you?

This case involving Sir Geoff is proof that investing in properties abroad can come with many risks if you do not do your research properly. Invest without knowing the laws or legislations of the country, and you could risk making thousands of pounds in losses for a property you don’t even own.

Yet it doesn’t have to be this way…
